　POCT(point of care testing)は迅速な検査結果の提供により，早期の診断治療を可能にして医療の質を向上させるが，一方で，測定人員や機器が各部署に分散するため，精度管理やコスト管理が難しいという問題がある．POCTでは，医師，看護師が直接検査にかかわる比率が中央検査部で行う場合より増す．医師は，POCTの意義を理解したうえで，その利点を生かせるよう検査を依頼し結果の解釈に備える必要があり，看護師は，検査の効率的な運用と精度保証に自ら積極的にかかわる姿勢が求められる．
