ロタウイルス下痢症により,5歳未満の約40人に1人が合併する脱水症の治療のために入院しており,胃腸炎による乳幼児の入院の約40%を占めている.世界的に使用が承認されているロタウイルスワクチンは,単価ヒトロタウイルスワクチン(Rotarix(R),グラクソスミスクライン社)と5価ウシ・ヒトロタウイルス組換え体ワクチン(RotaTeq(R),メルク社)との2つである.これらのワクチンの特徴と本邦への導入の必要性とについて解説する.
