過敏性腸症候群(IBS)とは,腹痛・腹部不快感と便通異常が持続する機能性消化管障害である.IBSの病因と病態生理の両面において腸内細菌叢の役割が重視されつつある.腸内細菌叢が撹乱される感染性腸炎に罹患した後にIBSが発症する感染性腸炎後IBSが注目されている.IBS全体としても,腸内細菌叢の異常が検討され,その代謝産物が症状の重症度を左右する結果が報告されている.慎重に計画された介入研究においても,腸内細菌叢の役割が証明されつつある.
